Area rankings

Postcode areas across England and Wales, ranked on the things people actually choose a neighbourhood on. Built from 31.4 million Land Registry sales, 5.8 million police crime records, Ofsted grades for 26,824 schools and the 2021 Census — all by postcode area rather than by council, which is where most comparisons stop.

About these rankings

Rankings are by postcode area — RG14, M21, LS6, the part of a postcode before the space. That is deliberately finer than the council-level comparisons most sites publish: crime, schools and prices vary far more inside a single council than between one council and the next, and an average across a whole borough hides exactly the differences you are trying to find.

Areas with too few sales or residents to rank meaningfully are excluded, as are non-residential ones. Where a figure is unknown an area is left out of that ranking rather than counted as zero — an area whose police force does not publish crime data is not a safe area, it is an unknown one.
